Name
Leadership Anecdotes of a Fire Service Lifetime
Description

Leadership is built over a career—through experience, relationships, challenges, successes, and lessons learned along the way. In this session, we’ll explore the leadership values that help guide effective fire service leaders and why those values matter at every level of the organization.

Drawing on lessons from a lifetime in the fire service, we’ll discuss the importance of building meaningful relationships with elected officials, including practical ways to start and strengthen those connections. We’ll also address one of leadership’s most challenging responsibilities: having difficult conversations. Participants will learn why timely, honest communication—supported by effective documentation—is essential to leading people, managing challenges, and creating accountability.

Finally, we’ll take a practical look at generational differences in today’s fire service and why understanding how different generations communicate, work, and respond to leadership can help us build stronger teams and develop the next generation of fire service leaders.
