Frederick Firestone Fire Protection District
Speaker Bio
Sammy Freyta began her career in broadcast journalism and production before feeling called to deeper work helping others. After earning her master’s in counseling psychology and art therapy from Adler University in 2013—specializing in social psychology and trauma—she spent her early years working with war trauma survivors, refugees, and families in high-risk urban environments.
In 2016, drawn by the mountains and her passion for trauma work, Sammy moved to Colorado and began specializing in first responder mental health. She co-founded Elevate Coaching with her husband, a firefighter at South Metro Fire, fusing clinical expertise with real-world responder experience. That integrative approach led her to become a full-time employee with Frederick-Firestone Fire District, where she works full-time as a Mindset Specialist. Beyond Frederick-Firestone, Elevate partners with roughly ten other first responder agencies, bringing mental fitness and care directly into their communities and making mental wellness an integrated part of daily responder life.
A certified yoga instructor, Sammy brings mindful movement and recovery practices into the departments she serves. As an ultra-trail runner, she embodies the philosophy of "doing hard things," modeling the resilience, grit, and mental fitness she teaches—and proving that mental and physical strength go hand in hand.
