Pre-Conference Workshops: Monday, October 19
Forged to Lead - Fire Chief's Pre-Con
11:30 am - 5:00 pm
This workshop is a leadership crucible—not a lecture. Fire Chiefs will engage in hands-on application, debate, and real-world problem solving across four interconnected areas: culture, pre-resilience, succession planning, and high performance. Each module builds toward practical outcomes, ensuring participants leave with actionable strategies tailored to their organization. $45 fee to participate, includes lunch
By the end of the workshop, participants will:
- Define organizational culture and their role as its chief architect
- Apply the Trust–Alignment–Performance framework to a current challenge
- Differentiate pre-resilience from reactive approaches and identify an upstream intervention
- Evaluate their succession pipeline and identify a targeted development action
- Use a five-element high-performance playbook to address a performance issue
- Commit to three concrete actions to implement within 30 days
First-Arriving Company Officer Strategy & Tactics - How We Make Sound Decisions to Set Up the Scene for Success
1:00 - 4:00 pm
Do you ever wonder how we make decisions in a split second as we arrive on a fire? How do Officers know what to do and how do they decide the priorities of an incident? This session is for anyone who sets in the front seat, arrives first, and wants to better their skills at making good decisions in a moment's notice. We will cover what you should be doing long before the call, reference materials that every Officer should have, what should be done on the way to the call, hydrant vs no hydrant, arrival decisions, determining priorities, fireground math for stretches and hose sizing, and suppression considerations. Then, we will walk through various fire scenarios and discuss the how and the why. $35 fee to participate
